Asya Fateyeva – Around Bach

Asya Fateyeva is regarded as one of the leading classical saxophonists and is expanding the repertoire of her instrument through innovative programmes and stylistic versatility. Born in Crimea, she studied in Cologne, Paris and Lyon, amongst other places, and is now a professor of saxophone in Hamburg and Lübeck.

In 2016, the saxophonist performed at the ‘Echo Klassik – German Music Prize’ and won the ECHO Klassik award for Young Artist of the Year for her achievements on the saxophone.

She combines original works for the saxophone with arrangements from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods, as well as projects involving jazz and world music. In 2014, she became the first woman to reach the final of the International Adolphe Sax Competition, where she won third prize.

Fateyeva performs with renowned orchestras such as the German Symphony Orchestra Berlin, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Dresden Philharmonic, and is a guest at international festivals, including Lucerne, Dresden and Schleswig-Holstein, where she took centre stage as the featured artist in 2024.

Her playing is characterised by an openness to different styles and cultures, bringing the saxophone to life in new musical contexts.
