Cultural and educational manager, social education worker, founding member of Kultur Palast.
In 1980, she was one of the founding members of Kultur Palast and had been on the board since 1986. She became managing director in 1988 and later also artistic director. In 2000, she launched BilleVue GbR and the BilleVue city festival, which at the time had 16 partners. In 2004, she founded the music club Bambi galore, which is now one of Germany’s most popular heavy metal venues. In 2007, she initiated and developed the city-wide projects HipHop Academy Hamburg and Klangstrolche, which now support 3,500 children and young people. In 2013, she launched the Billstedt Classics programme in collaboration with the University of Music and Theatre. In 2017, she was awarded the ‘Hamburg Woman of the Year in the Field of Culture’ prize for the HipHop Academy Hamburg project. In 2017, she opened a music nursery, Die Palaststrolche, on the roof of the Kultur Palast, as well as a new theatre as part of an extension to the foundation’s premises. She and her team worked tirelessly for over 10 years to bring this construction project to fruition. In 2018, as part of the International Music Education project, she began developing a new music education method for the ‘Klangstrolche’ project, with the aim of reflecting the diversity of today’s society. As part of the project, refugees and carers are trained to become music educators. At the end of 2018, she conceived the ‘Billstedt United’ project, a national pilot scheme in which new cultural formats are developed for an international urban community and a sense of community is sought and showcased across cultures.
